SACRAMENTS
First Holy Communion

During the preparation of First Holy Communion the grade 4 children have a morning's retreat and to finish off the day, they each bake a loaf of bread (as a symbol of Jesus who said : I am the Bread of Life) and invite their parents for a bring and share lunch . It is a very special meal called : The Blessing Cup Meal. It resembles the Last supper when Jesus took the cup and blessed it and gave it to His disciples. At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the celebration of the Holy Eucharist which the children prepare for during their 4th grade.

In the photographs parents, the children, Anne King, their facilitator and Fr. Antony Spencer, OFM (who conducted the retreat and heard their Confessions ) can be seen celebrating the retreat and meal held in November 2007. ( See photographs)

Confirmation

Every year the candidates who are preparing for Confirmation attend a weekend retreat. In July 2007 , they went to Mariannhill Retreat House where Fr. Christopher Neville OFM conducted the retreat. He was able to arrange a tour of the beautiful Mariannhill Monastery as seen in these photographs. Also pictured is Philip Eales, the class's facilitator who prepared them to receive the sacrament. The group can also be seen enjoying a meal in the diningroom of the retreat House.

The weekend retreat is one of the highlights of the preparation for Confirmation as it allows them time away from the distractions of home, school and social activities. Although cell phones, ipods, cds and dvds are strictly forbidden on the retreat (much to the indignation of the teenagers !), the group nevertheless thoroughly enjoy the memorable experience of their weekend away.
